Lusail Suffer a 3-1 Defeat Against Al Duhail
Lusail’s first football team suffered a 3-1 defeat against Al Duhail in the match played this evening at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, home of Al Duhail, as part of Round 7 of the Doha Bank Stars League for the 2026–2027 season.
Following this result, Lusail remain on six points in ninth place, while Al Duhail increased their tally to 15 points to move into third place. Our head coach, Portuguese manager Emmanuel Mesquita, started the match with the following lineup: Arsha Shakouri in goal; Amin Ali Reza, Franco Russo, Mohamed Ayash, Omid Ebrahimi, Farhad Ismail, Khaled Waleed, Nayef Al Hadhrami, Khaled Mohamed, Ali Nemati, and Rodrigo Moreno.
The first half saw an outstanding performance from our goalkeeper, Arsha Shakouri, who made several crucial saves to deny Al Duhail clear scoring opportunities. In the 12th minute, he brilliantly saved a header from Polish striker Piatek. Four minutes later, he denied Omar Sekou in a one-on-one situation. Shakouri continued his impressive display in the 21st minute by saving a shot from Sultan Al Brake, before stopping another one-on-one attempt from Boubacar Soumare in the 33rd minute.
Despite his remarkable efforts, Shakouri was eventually beaten by Almoez Ali, who opened the scoring for Al Duhail in the 40th minute with a shot from just outside the penalty area.
Meanwhile, Lusail attempted to create scoring opportunities and challenge Al Duhail’s defence and goalkeeper Salah Zakaria, but were unable to find the breakthrough. The first half ended with Al Duhail leading 1-0.
At the start of the second half, coach Emmanuel Mesquita made an attacking substitution, bringing on Hamed Reza Firoozi in place of Nayef Al Hadhrami in an effort to strengthen the team’s attacking play.
Lusail continued to push forward in search of an equaliser and a way back into the match. However, Al Duhail were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute following a VAR review. Almoez Ali missed the penalty in the 74th minute, keeping Lusail’s hopes of levelling the score alive.
Lusail’s persistence eventually paid off in the 89th minute when Spanish forward Rodrigo Moreno scored the equaliser. The goal came from an excellent cross delivered from the right flank by Farhad Ismail, bringing the score to 1-1.
However, Al Duhail regained the lead in stoppage time, with Boubacar Soumare scoring their second goal in the 90+4th minute. Lusail attempted to respond once again and salvage a point, but Al Duhail goalkeeper Salah Zakaria dealt effectively with their attacking efforts.
Al Duhail then sealed the victory when Almoez Ali scored his second goal of the match in the 90+12th minute, making it 3-1 at the final whistle.
