Lusail Kicks Off QSL Cup Campaign with 1-0 Victory Over Al-Markhiya

Lusail’s first football team opened their 2026-2027 QSL Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Al-Markhiya.

The match took place yesterday evening at Al-Gharafa Club’s Thani bin Jassim Stadium as part of the tournament's first round.

Our Portuguese head coach, Emanuel Mesquita, fielded a starting lineup featuring: Amir Katoul (goalkeeper), Ali Malallah, Franco Russo, Abdullah Makki, Gjorgji Stojanovski, Saud Ali, Khalid Walid, Amat Ndiaye, Thiago Joss, Mohammed Ayyash, and Mohammed Khan.

Lusail entered the match aiming for a strong start and a positive result. During the first half, the team attempted to threaten the goal of Al-Markhiya’s goalkeeper, Osama Adel, on several occasions in search of an opener; however, these attempts did not result in goals, and the half ended in a goalless draw.

In the second half, our team came out strong and succeeded in scoring the match's only goal in the 54th minute through Gjorgji Stojanovski, securing three crucial points to kick off the campaign.

Lusail is set to face Al-Waab in the second round on September 29 at Al-Ahli Club’s Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium (kick-off at 8:15 PM), aiming to maintain their positive momentum and secure a second tournament victory.
