Lusail Secure Historic First Doha Bank Stars League Victory with 4–0 Win Over Al Wakrah
Lusail Sports Club’s first team recorded a commanding and well-deserved 4–0 victory over Al Wakrah in tonight’s match at the iconic Lusail Stadium, as part of Round 3 of the 2026–2027 Doha Bank Stars League season.
Our Portuguese head coach, Emanuel Mesquita, started the match with the following line-up: Arsha Shakori in goal, Amin Ali Reza, Franco Russo, Mohamed Ayash, Omid Ebrahimi, Farhad Esmaeil, Hamid Reza Firoozi, Naif Al-Hadhrami, Khaled Mohamed, Ali Nemati, and Rodrigo Moreno. Our team entered the match with great determination and a desire to build on the impressive performance against Al Ahli in the previous round, which ended in a 3–3 draw. Lusail quickly translated that intent onto the pitch, opening the scoring in the 12th minute through Hamid Reza Firoozi.
Lusail continued to apply attacking pressure, and in the 16th minute, the outstanding Firoozi surged forward before being brought down by Al Wakrah defender Al Mahdi Ali. Referee Mohammed Al Shammari awarded our team a penalty, which Rodrigo Moreno successfully converted in the 19th minute to double Lusail’s lead.
Moreno found the net again in the 25th minute after dribbling Al Wakrah goalkeeper Mohammed Al Bakri. However, the goal was ruled out following a VAR review, which determined that Moreno had committed a foul on Al Wakrah’s Lucas Mendes in the build-up.
Lusail continued to push forward, creating chances and constantly threatening the opposition’s goal. The pressure paid off once again in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, when Farhad Esmaeil scored the third following a superb combination with Firoozi. The three-goal advantage reflected Lusail’s dominance and control throughout an outstanding first-half performance.
Our team maintained its superiority after the break, adding a fourth goal through the impressive Farhad Esmaeil. He grabbed his second of the night and Lusail’s fourth with a powerful and superb strike from inside the penalty area.
Lusail created several further opportunities to add to the scoreline but ultimately settled for four, sealing a historic night with the club’s first-ever victory in the Doha Bank Stars League following its promotion to the competition this season.
The victory takes Lusail’s tally to four points and moves the team into fifth place, while Al Wakrah remain on one point in the penultimate position.
Following the final whistle, Hamid Reza Firoozi was named Player of the Match after an outstanding performance in which he scored once and provided two assists. It marks the second consecutive match in which a Lusail player has received the award, following Rodrigo Moreno’s Player of the Match recognition against Al Ahli in the previous round.
